By 2022, we will have undertaken important steps to significantly improve the sustainability of our in-house FIBC manufacturing activities.

Sustainable production

By improving the efficiency of our packaging production processes, we want to contribute to sustainable development. In 2017, independent research agency Except Sustainability conducted baseline environmental footprint research on our FIBC production location based on water and electricity use, waste production and CO2 emissions. Our goal is to improve our footprint. Starting with our new starlinger recycling machine, which will recycle up to 75% of our production waste.

Sustainable sourcing

Sustainable sourcing is an integral part of our business. We make sure all our production partners are accredited with the necessary certificates and comply with local laws and regulations. In 2017 we took the first steps in integrating our values and ethical sourcing principles into our selection and buying processes, by educating our employees on sustainability and clearly communicating our expectations to production partners through our Supplier Code of Conduct. Over 50% of all production partners have now signed our Supplier Code of Conduct and we expect this to be 100% by the end of 2018.

We continuously invest in the relationship and partnership with our stakeholders and jointly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. Our colleagues in Africa, for example, partner with sustainable initiatives to improve the well-being in local communities. Many of our production partners became SA 8000 certified in 2017 or are in the process of achieving this. Together with our customers, we discuss how we can work towards a more sustainable future and, together with the Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh, show the world that there are companies in Bangladesh who take care of their employees and the environment. The country is in need of fair investment and the corresponding economic growth.
