Reduce food loss and food waste
Our modified atmosphere packaging
Dear reader,
Welcome to our Sustainability Update.
It has been a year of contradictions. Thanks to LC Packaging's sustainable approach, strong partnerships, resilience and flexibility, we were able to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2023. On top of that, we have received the predicate ‘Royal’, which makes us ‘Royal LC Packaging’ today.
That being said, in this challenging external environment, including increased emerging disruptions, our purpose ‘contribute to a world without waste’ is more relevant than ever.
With our packaging, we protect valuable goods from going to waste. We offer packaging solutions optimised to protect and transport its contents, such as our modified atmosphere packaging. Furthermore, we do our utmost to ensure that the packaging itself does not become waste after use. We strive to keep our packaging materials in the loop: a circular economy. More sustainable materials are introduced, such as recycled content and bioplastics (cellulose). Products are designed for (closed-loop) recycling or composting, and for reuse. We offer a wonderful reuse service for our big bags, for over 15 years… a proven concept. In addition to ‘dry washing’, last year we added ‘wet washing’ to our solutions portfolio. Today, 23% of our company’s turnover comes from circular packaging.
Along the way, we make our contribution towards mitigating the worst impacts of climate change, by reducing emissions in our entire value chain. In collaboration with our long-term production partners, among others. We have an ambitious action plan towards reaching our science-based emission reduction targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2023. The emissions in our value chain have been reduced by 20.6%, compared to base year 2021.
And because everyone deserves a decent standard of living, we have launched a living wage programme for our key production partners, supported by IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative, to ensure all our key partners’ employees earn at least a living wage by 2030, instead of an inadequate local minimum wage. Today, 59% of our key production partners pay their employees at least a living wage, representing 42.7% of all employees employed.
In this Sustainability Update 2024, we look back on the second year in our journey to become a leader in sustainable packaging: the policies and targets we set and the actions we took, and as always, we present to you a transparent and honest overview of our results.
Please enjoy reading our Sustainability Update. I hope you will join us on our journey.
Our purpose
Contribute to a world without waste by protecting valuable goods from going to waste during transportation and storage, and by eliminating packaging waste.
Our vision
Be a leader in sustainable packaging
