Create supply chain sustainability

LC’s most significant impact on the environment, society and economy occurs in our supply chain.

Supply Chain

By improving the efficiency of our packaging production processes, we contribute to sustainable development. Every two years, independent research agency Except Integrated Sustainability conducts environmental footprint research on our production locations, based on water and electricity use, waste production and CO2 emissions. This research was also conducted for 2018 (see chapter: Environment). Our goal is to improve our footprint in these four areas.

additional high quality jobs in Bangladesh and recycled 650 tons (80%) of our plastics (PP and PE) production waste. This initiative was recognised in the Dutch UN Global Compact SDG Progress Report (page 46).

Together with our local Partners in Bangladesh, LC Packaging initiated a first-of-its-kind waste recycling – or rather ‘upcycling’ – project: GREENBangla. With this initiative – co-financed by the German Investment Corporation (DEG) and the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) – we have invested over €750,000 in a state-of-the-art Starlinger Recycling Machine, created 20

internally and reused. Furthermore, to reduce our CO2 footprint, we focus on more sustainable container loading solutions, together with our Production Partners. By making small product adjustments, we have created 6% more container capacity for our PP bags and as our Leno bag bales have been pressed more tightly, we have created up to 20% more loading capacity, resulting in up to 25 fewer containers shipped on an annual basis.

Other examples of measures taken to minimise our footprint are the use of energy efficient equipment at our production locations and the use of palette jacks instead of forklifts to save energy. In addition, we ensure our factory operations do not compromise the right to clean water of local communities. In our corrugated cardboard production location in Belgium, we invested €600,000 in a brand new de-inking installation in 2018. With this new installation we no longer have to discharge our water and everything is purified

Sustainable sourcing

Supply Chain

A sustainable supply chain is the integration of social, ethical and environmental performance factors into the process of selecting suppliers, producing products and delivering to customers. At LC Packaging, we train our employees to understand and make better-informed decisions that lead to more sustainable consumption.

By 2022, 100% of our production partners will have signed our Supplier Code of Conduct and will act accordingly.

2022

By signing this document, our Partners declare that all existing and future agreements and business relationships with LC Packaging will be subject to the principles contained in the document and to educate their employees accordingly. Part of our assessment process is that we ask all our key suppliers – just like ourselves – to become a member of the SEDEX platform and upload proof of compliance to our Code and additionally, perform the SMETA audit if requested.

To understand and manage the risks in our supply chain, LC Packaging has made sustainable sourcing an integral part of our procurement and supply chain process. Since both LC Packaging and our Production Partners have developed strongly in recent years when it comes to labour standards and human rights, ethics and environmental efforts, in January 2019, LC Packaging updated its Global Supplier Code of Conduct. This document prescribes values and principles LC Packaging has committed to worldwide: non-negotiable standards that we ask our partners to respect and adhere to when conducting business. We expect all our Partners to sign the Code and deliver proof of compliance as part of our Supplier Assessment Process.

When it comes to our community projects, we are extremely happy with our local partners, such as the GramBangla Unnayan Committee in Bangladesh, the South African Green Berets and the Sri Lankan Hope for Children foundation. Our Partners in capacity development, such as the FMO and the DEG, help us to create high quality jobs and stimulate economic growth, and our Production Partners are key in contributing to sustainable consumption and production and innovation.
